Changes in retail to kickstart Sports & Active Nutrition Summit 2021
The NutraIngredients-USA Sports & Active Nutrition Summit 2021 is just around the corner, with the ‘Changing Retail Landscape for Sports Nutrition’ set for Thursday, Jan. 28.
The virtual segment will begin with a fireside chat with Joshua Schall, principal of J. Schall Consulting. Schall, a noted commentator with an eagle eye on the retail market, will discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated e-commerce adoption and shifted consumer behavior.
The evolution of shopping
The year 2020 was outrageous on many levels, and retail is no exception. Schall will reflect on this past year and confront major themes such as transitioning away from specialty-only, ecommerce marketplaces, direct-to-consumer, retail's shift to frictionless omnichannel, and linear commerce.
More specifically, Schall will examine the dissemination of the sports nutrition category and how it has transformed into active nutrition; ‘Choose your own adventure shopping’ and the empowered consumer; The ‘Walmazon effect’ and what legacy brands need to know; and the intersection of digital media and traditional eCommerce.
Whether it’s the growth of e-commerce, or the fall of retail businesses that couldn’t adapt or the consumer profiles that emerged as a result of the pandemic, Schall will offer an insightful analysis accompanied by a market forecast that is a must-see for anyone in the industry.
More experts to join in
Following the fireside chat, Steve Hanson, founder and CEO of Nutrasocial, will conduct a short presentation on the retail landscape from a business development, branding and marketing standpoint.
A panel discussion will wrap up the event, which includes Schall and Hanson, as well as Mike Archbold, CEO at the Council for Inclusive Capitalism and former CEO of GNC, and Marc Brush, principal in the consulting firm Bend LLC and former editor of Nutrition Business Journal. As an added bonus, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions in real time.
Additional segments of the event, which will take place on a weekly or biweekly basis through February, will look at Recovery, the Microbiome and Whitespaces in Sports Nutrition with an emphasis on the female athlete and Esports opportunities.
