Polifenoles Naturales (Polinat) is further extending its reach into
the US market with the acquisition of National BioScience Corp. and
the inking of an exclusive distribution agreement for its products
with PL Thomas.

The Spanish fruit and botanical extractor started to increase its US reach last summer, when it announced a plan to work with PLThomas on the development and marketing of new ingredients.

While further announcements have yet been made on that front, the purchase of NBC for an undisclosed sum represents a new step forward, with a company that it has worked closely with in the past. Indeed, it was already manufacturing extracts for NBC, and lists NBC as its US contact on its website.

NBC founder and president Dr Zakir Ramazanov passed away suddenly in November.

Polinat president Dr Miguel Jimenez told NutraIngredients.com last year that his company is aiming to be closer to manufacturers and consumers in the US, and to adapt to the necessities of the market.

"Until now our efforts have been concentrated much more in the research and development of products rather than in commercial aspects or marketing," he said.

Polinat's portfolio of extracts for supplements, health foods and cosmetics includes powdered extracts of apple, apricot and nectarine, blackcurrant, pomegranate, seaweeds, olive, rhodiola rosea and ajuga.
