OmniActive Health Technologies has acquired ENovate Biolife, expanding its ingredients portfolio to target key health categories in the dietary supplement space.

“ENovate's approach to ingredients perfectly aligns with OmniActive’s mission of delivering proven products that make a meaningful difference in consumers’ lives,” said Sanjay Mariwala, founder and managing director of OmniActive. “ENovate has done a remarkable job bringing multiple standout ingredients to the market, including Muvz, RedNite and the award-winning Oxyjun.”

The agreement, finalized on Oct. 26, builds on the success of an initial 2019 partnership between the two companies through a U.S. licensing agreement for enXtra, a clinically studied Alpinia Galanga ingredient marketed to support mental energy.

Elevating and expanding the reach

Established by pharmacists Latha and Jayesh Chaudhary in 2009, Mumbai-based ENovate Biolife began as Exotic Natural in 1993, a botanical and marine ingredient development company.

Since then, it has built out a team of doctors, pharmacologists, phytochemists and pharmacists to connect traditional medicine and modern science, introducing a range of supplement solutions for sports and active nutrition, joint and lower back support, men’s health and heart health, with muscle and digestive health ingredients in the pipeline.

“We are extremely proud of the strides we have made to help our loyal customers deliver products formulated with clinically backed ingredients to address consumer health and performance needs,” said Jayesh Chaudhary, founder and CEO of ENovate. “OmniActive’s comprehensive capabilities spanning across clinical research, R&D, regulatory, marketing and operations, along with global reach, position us well to elevate these ingredients even further.”

These include MUVZ, a blend of Vitex negundo and Zingiber officinale shown to provide pain joint and back pain relief at a low dose of 200 mg; a beetroot concentrate powder for sports performance; a non-hormonal botanical blend for men's sexual health and performance; a joint health formulation backed by three clinical studies; and the Oxyjun arjuna extract to improve heart health and cardio endurance for active adults (winner of the 2023 NutraIngredients sports nutrition ingredient of the year).

The acquisition

Although financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the acquisition is effective immediately and will incorporate ENovate key staff across operations, marketing and R&D.

“They bring high quality innovation that we are going to take this to the next level by helping connect to the health category conversation where the product and the efficacy of the product is the solution,” Adam Adelmann, chief commercial officer at OmniActive, told NutraIngredients-USA at the SupplySide West trade show in Las Vegas last week.

Next steps, he added, include talking through the customer base, inputs and positioning and accelerating the opportunity pipeline.

The ENovate ingredients fold into OmniActive’s broad portfolio of over a dozen branded ingredients and range of botanical bioactives currently focused on six primary categories: eye health and vision performance, cognition, mood and sleep, natural mental energy, joint health and mobility, weight management, and sports nutrition and hydration.

This is the company’s second acquisition after purchasing Bangalore-based botanical ingredients company Indfrag in 2017, which followed a $35 million raise from private equity firm Everstone Capital to diversify and expand its product line.
