CS Agra becomes CS Health
for some time; now CS Agra, the company behind sgs 100, has been
renamed as CS Health to better represent the benefits of its core
ingredient.
The 'Agra' roots of the company come down to its parent, Caudill Seed Company. Working closely with Brassica Protection Products, CS Health has developed broccoli varieties that are exceptionally rich in glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane was first discovered by scientists at John Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1992, and a raft of scientific studies have indicated SGS (sulforaphane glucosinolate) found in broccoli sprouts to be a long-lasting anti-oxidant and detoxifier, and to contribute to the integrity of cells, promoting the body's immune defense systems for overall health and well being.
CS Health and Brassica's three-day old broccoli plants are said to provide 20 times the concentration of SGS as found in adult broccoli. They have previously been available in several markets as retail packaged foods BroccoSprouts and Brassica Teas with sgs.
CS Health went on to develop patent pending methods to isolate and stabilize the glucoraphanin, and sgs 100 was introduced to the market last year. It can be used in dietary supplements (tablets, capsules or soft gels), functional and conventional foods and personal care products.
Of the new name CS Heath, CEO Dan Caudill said it "more clearly defines our responsiveness to an expanding customer base brought about by strong growth in our core business and the mission of our dietary supplements business."
At a time when ingredients companies are aware of the image they present to consumers as well as to industry customers, and when health is influencing more and more purchasing decisions, CS Health is not the first to adopt a new name that plays up the health aspect. For instance, in 2004 Kemin Food became Kemin Health, and Canadian egg ingredients firm Inovatech renamed its nutrition division Vitalus Nutrition.
CS Health also offers a consumer-packaged dietary supplement, Vitalica.
