Sabinsa sees great market potential for new bi-layer, multi-release compositions
The new Integrated Nutritional Composites (INC) are said to deliver stable dosage forms of actives that may not otherwise be compatible, or that pose formulation difficulties, said Sabinsa.
“People are familiar with these types of tablets, they just have not experienced it in the nutraceutical industry,” said Shaheen Majeed, marketing director for Sabinsa.
Only limited by the imagination
Jeff Lind, Sabinsa CEO, told NutraIngredients that, while there are already some bi-layer tablets on the market in the nutra industry, their use is not widespread. This is because not many companies have the equipment, the technical expertise nor the scientific research to understand the potential product development impact of bi-layer, he said.
The company sees the bi-layer formulations as having "great market potential”, and Lind added that the only limiting factor is "the imagination and product development savvy of companies interested in this technology.
"To open the tablet market to different release profiles in the same tablet or to finally having a solution to formulating chemically incompatible ingredients in the same formulation gives the tablet market the potential for phenomenal growth," he added.
The technology is limited to powder ingredients or any ingredients that can be made into a powder, said Lind.
Flexibility
According to Sabinsa, INC offers customers the flexibility to work with Sabinsa’s expert staff to tweak the existing formulas, or to develop new formulas.
One such product is already on store shelves, added Lind: "NiLitis SR” in the America’s Finest, Inc. brand.
The company is also offering "right out of the box" compositions involving many of its own science-based patented ingredients, including Silbinol (pterostilebene), BioPerine (black pepper extract), ForsLean (coleus forskohlii), Boswellin (Boswellia serrata), and Curcumin C3 Complex (curcuminoids).
