“BlueWave is a key acquisition for us as we move forward,” said Scott Walker, CEO of 3D. “It jump starts our Marine Platform, allows us geographic presence outside North America, and BlueWave’s Peruvian facility links well to our growing Human/Functional Nutrition business.”
Development
As NutraIngredients-USA first reported several years ago, advances with membrane technology allowed BlueWave to produce fish protein isolated that meets both the organoleptic and economic requirements for the broader food ingredient/ supplement marketplace.
The membrane system works by having one stream enter and three streams exit. The main stream is separated into a high fat plus protein stream, a zero fat plus protein stream, and a biogenic fraction. The fishiness is removed by the membrane, since it removes the oil and fat. The protein offers a complete profile of the essential amino acids.
The company has a two-pronged strategy for its AminoMarine ingredient in the US retail market – to work with some niche players in the protein market and to go directly to the market with the BlueWave branded ingredient.
Synergies
The company’s products and processes represent strong synergies with some other 3D strategic initiatives, including 3D strategic partner JT Naturals (Joplin, MO), said Walker.
“During the last 4-5 years, we expanded our platform with strategic partners and four new factories utilizing a proprietary/patented process technology,” said Michael Mussell, CEO of BlueWave. “It is an ideal time for a strong marketing partner and 3D is a perfect fit.”
3D Corporate Solutions is employee-owned (ESOP). It produces and sources ingredients in the nutrition industries for pets, feed, and food. 3D also provides warehousing and logistics services.
