Novel Rose Petal Extract Serves as a Unique Tool for Weight Management Formulation

Undesired weight gain continues to be a concern in the United States.  One American Psychological Association (APA) survey of U.S. adults by The Harris Poll noted that 42% of adults gained more weight than they intended to during the pandemic,1 with those who reported weight gain seeing a mean increase of 29 pounds.1  A recent market report suggested the demand for weight loss supplements will continue to grow, with an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 8%, with a projected market size of over 128 billion USD by 2026.2  “It’s clear that the demand for innovative ingredients supporting weight management isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.” noted Steve Geiger, VP/GM of Sales and Operations for Vidya Herbs USA.

“Vidya Herbs continues its tireless efforts at the company’s state-of-the-art R&D center to develop unique ingredients product development scientists can rely on for weight management, and 2022 is no different.” added K Shyam Prasad, Vidya Herbs’ Founder and Managing Director.  In addition to the already established clinically researched ingredients for supporting a healthy body weight and metabolism, CGA-7™, SUNCA™ and AFPERFIT™, the company has unveiled its latest launch-ROSEFIT™.

ROSEFIT is a first of its kind, water-soluble rose (Rosa multiflora) petal extract standardized to 60% polyphenols and 2-3% isoquercetin.

The ingredient was first featured in a pre-clinical trial published in Pharmacognosy Magazine last spring.3  The early research suggested the ingredient may inhibit lipase, thereby lowering the dietary absorption of fat as well as helping to regulate adipogenesis, or the formation of fat cells.3

In the summer of 2021, the company completed a human clinical trial in India on the ingredient that supports the product’s benefits for weight management.  The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on overweight adults found that those consuming 400 mg/day of the extract for 12 weeks saw a significant mean reduction in body weight, BMI (body mass index), % body fat and fat mass in comparison to the placebo group.  The trial also included other measures that may explain these including serum markers and scores on a visual analogue scale (VAS).  Serum improvements in the extract group included a significant increase in leptin and a significant decrease in ghrelin while VAS improvements included significant, favorable changes in hunger, satiety, fullness and prospective food consumption as compared to the placebo group.

The ingredient enjoys diverse applications for dietary supplements including in capsules, tablets, softgels, powders and beverages.

The company offers prospective customers exceptional support from product concept to finished product.  Vidya Herbs achieves this by:
