“Our approach combines GLP-1 medications with tailored nutritional support, delivered seamlessly to fit into everyday life,” said Jason Brown, who founded Persona 25 years ago. “As we grow, we’ll expand to include programs that tackle other critical health concerns to help individuals achieve lasting wellness.”
To start on the PHRx platform, individuals complete an online health assessment through telehealth and receive a treatment plan designed for them. Consumers have ongoing support from doctors and nutritionists at no additional cost. PHRx is available nationwide and offers upfront pricing with no hidden fees, the company said.
PHRx provides GLP-1 medications, such as FDA-approved and compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, prescribed and monitored by doctors through telehealth consultations on the platform. Nutritionists address metabolic health, weight management, overall nutrition and drug nutrient interactions.
If consumers do not qualify for GLP-1 prescriptions, PHRx suggests supplement solutions based on an individual’s personalized nutrition needs.
PHRx comes at a time of growing interest in the role of supplements in helping to address GLP-1 symptoms. Since GLP-1 drugs have come to market, supplement companies have championed nutraceutical solutions for weight management.
Last year, GNC established a section dedicated to helping GLP-1 users manage the side effects associated with treatment. In May, The Vitamin Shoppe launched Whole Health Rx, which offers supplements, guidance and GLP-1 drugs. And Nestlé Health Science unveiled its GLP-1 nutrition support platform which addresses lifestyle and modification needs due to GLP-1 medications.
A history of personalization
Brown told NutraIngredients-USA in November that although GLP-1 drugs help people reduce their food intake, users do not always meet their nutritional needs.
“You’re not eating properly, right?” he said. “I want to take a drug that stops me from eating, and so you need the [vitamin and mineral] support to be able to make it so that you are healthier. We believe that there is a tremendous interaction between our company and the world of drug-nutrient interaction.”
Last year Persona launched a white-labeling program to offer a turnkey solution for companies who wanted access to Persona’s supplements, nutritionists, tailored design services and back-end management of subscriptions.
In some respects, creating PHRx was an obvious evolution for Brown as Persona offered a blueprint for personalization. The company’s sophisticated algorithmic database crosschecks the drugs consumers are taking with the nutritional supplement recommendations. This helps to determine whether a supplement or product will interact appropriately with medication or if it is causing a nutritional depletion.
Weight Management Summit 2025
GLP-1 support and natural alternatives are just two of the topics that will be covered at the upcoming Weight Management Summit, hosted by NutraIngredients-USA in association with Iovate Health Sciences. The half-day event will explore the state of the market, the science behind the dietary ingredients making waves as natural alternatives and side effect support, and how to best communicate all of this to an engaged, passionate, and growing consumer base.
