Cycle syncing: How Levelle Nutrition is helping women optimize their cycles

Linda Alvarez, MD, co-founder of Levelle Nutrition, is leading the charge in ‘cycle-syncing’, the movement to help women optimize their nutrition and workouts based on their menstrual cycle.

Her new plant-powered protein powder set is designed to cater to the changing macronutrient and micronutrient needs of women throughout their cycle.

"A really great aspect of this is that if we're able to understand what hormones are at play, we can better eat and feel better throughout our menstrual cycle" she said. "We can perform better as we're being physically active. We can decrease our PMS symptoms and kind of help that stage of having a period go a little bit better throughout the cycle.

“There's more and more academic research coming forward about how our menstrual cycles affect our macronutrient metabolism—and so kind of understanding with each phase of our menstrual cycle, we have different fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone, and both of those play a factor in how we're metabolizing carbs, proteins and fats.”

Levelle’s new plant-powered protein set incorporates effera​, Helaina’s human equivalent lactoferrin ingredient. The ingredient helps enhance iron absorption and utilization—a common challenge among active women. Through extensive research and R&D, Dr. Alvarez is empowering women to take a more personalized, science-based approach to managing their periods and optimizing their health and performance.

Looking ahead, she said that Levelle has some exciting products in the pipeline for 2025 that look at micronutrient metabolism as well as other life cycle phases.

“So I'm super excited for that, and then doing that all while having a baby,” she added.
