Nimble, co-founded by Sabina Bruehlmann, PhD, and Joseph Wang, PhD, offers precision GI insights in product innovation across nutritional, diagnostic and treatment capabilities to deliver personalized healthcare solutions. The company said it fills a critical void with Nimble’s GI Analytics Platform, which leverages a passive ingestible capsule to deliver accurate data directly from the small intestine with a home use kit.
"Nimble Science's SIMBA capsule has revolutionized the potential for how nutritional and dietary supplements can be developed and tested," said Dr. Wang, who serves as Nimble's chief technology officer. "By capturing intestinal biopsies timed with product ingestion, product development can be informed by high-quality specific multi-omic data."
History
Nimble Science first hit the scene at Probiota Americas in 2023 as a Probiota Pioneer. At the time, Dr. Wang said being a Probiota Pioneer gave the company a unique opportunity to showcase its solutions with a wider range of stakeholders, including potential partners, investors and customers. Since then, the company said it has been fortunate enough to onboard a number of forward-thinking companies that are leading the industry by using the SIMBA capsule to collect next-generation datasets to inform their product development.
"We entered the NutraIngredients-USA Awards to celebrate not only Nimble's accomplishments but also the achievements of these valued early customers and partners," Dr. Wang said. "We can imagine a near future when product development for the gut can be targeted, personalized and highly effective for whole body health. Being named as [the winner] means the industry is ready to imagine this as well."
'Game-changing implications'
"With so much of the nutrition industry focused on digestive health solutions, Nimble Science’s sampling pill technology has game changing implications for unraveling the complexities of the human gut,” said Stephen Daniells, PhD, editor-in-chief at NutraIngredients-USA. "The platform’s SIMBA capsule also distinguishes itself by presenting a credible and tangible diagnostic tool rooted in research to advance the promise of ingestible devices and deliver actionable data for personalized microbiome interventions."
Dr. Wang said that as a growing team, this award helps fuel the team’s motivation and confirms that they are on the right path.
As for how the team plans to celebrate? "Being a startup company, things are still pretty lean—so likely ice cream sundaes," he said.
