As a numbers person, math always came easy to Clare Rebhun, senior manager of client insights at data and insights firm SPINS.
“My mom was actually very passionate about women in STEM specifically, so she encouraged me from a young age to try and pursue a career where I could use my analytical skill set. So I followed that advice through college, and majored in mathematics,” Rebhun said.
In addition to her mother, she credits female mentors throughout her college years and career for encouraging her to use her voice in the male-dominated field of math.
“It was hard at times, just dealing with being the lesser number in a classroom, but having that vision and those mentors has always helped me,” she said.
Rebhun was able to marry her skill set in analytics with her personal passion and values, when she landed her current role at SPINS where she uses data to help natural product brands within the CPG industry grow. However, she has found SPINS to be a place for personal growth as well.
“I work with maybe five women very closely that are kind of at a similar level here, and we all just encourage each other so much, and I think that's been something that's helped me a ton,” she said.
“Having that support system to lean on is what has helped me grow my confidence, but I think that everyone feels like an imposter at some point in their career. I think it's so common and part of it is just, you know, faking it till you make it at times too. I think that there's nothing wrong with that and eventually you just start to feel more confident. You get the experience under your belt, and all of that comes together in the end.”
