Polish supplement manufacturer Aronpharma has added a new B-PAC shot to its sports nutrition portfolio in response to growing consumer awareness of the benefits of antioxidant intakes for muscle recovery,

Introduced at the Nutraceuticals Europe event in Barcelona earlier this month, the nutritional shot provides a blend of polyphenols and anthocyanins from tart cherry juice and extract, liposomal magnesium and vitamin B6 to support muscle recovery, reduce inflammation and enhance athletic performance.

“According to numerous scientific publications, liposomal magnesium can protect athletes' bodies from oxidative stress, reduce post-workout muscle soreness, inflammation and accelerate recovery,” explained Dawid Białowąs, product development specialist at AronPharma.

“In scientific literature, tart cherry supplementation protocols are referred to as 'precovery' because they involve supplementing compounds for several days before an event and consider this strategy to be highly effective. Also recommendations for the use of tart cherry extracts can be found in the esteemed Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) supplement framework and in the statements of the most famous sports dietitians,” he told NutraIngredients.

He noted the growing demand for supplements containing natural sources of antioxidants, including those within fruit juices and extracts.

“There is a growing demand for supplements containing tart cherry juice on the market," he said. "This stems from increasing public awareness of the health benefits associated with regular consumption of fruit juices, especially those high in antioxidants like tart cherry juice."

In addition, scientific research suggests that tart cherry juice may reduce inflammation, improve sleep, boost muscle recovery post-exercise and alleviate symptoms associated with rheumatic diseases.

“As a result, there is a rising need for supplements containing ingredients derived from tart cherries, such as juices, extracts or capsules, which can be utilized by athletes as well as individuals seeking natural ways to improve health and well-being,” Białowąs added.

Although the drink mainly targets athletes, he said there are significant benefits for health and wellbeing for a range of consumers due to the presence of melatonin within tart cherry to improve sleep quality, as well as its significant anti-inflammatory properties which may alleviate joint and muscle pain or soreness.

Continued innovation

Białowąs also noted the company’s current emphasis on product innovation and the range of soon-to-launch supplements in the pipeline.

In addition to expanding the B-PAC line with supplements to support muscle glycogen re-synthesis, Aronpharama plans to release a beauty line containing marine collagen and products for gastrointestinal tract disorders including for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

In addition to the sports nutrition line, the company also currently markets supplements within the immunity, glucose regulation, vitamins and minerals, eye and heart health categories.

Best selling supplements include Berroxin Immuno and Berroxin Immuni Kids syrup, highlighting the sustained demand for immunity support. These products contain the company's Fenative ingredient, formulated with polyphenols, anthocyanins, elderberry and chokeberry extracts, in addition to marshmallow root and wild rose fruit.
