NutraWomen Wednesday: Jaclyn Bowen, MPH, MS, Executive Director, Clean Label Project

Before coming to Clean Label Project, Jackie Bowen held numerous technical, standards development, food safety, quality, and executive roles within the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre, NSF International. Her expertise is in organic, gluten-free, non-GMO labeling, food safety, and label claim substantiation and compliance.

“I started my career at NSF International actually working in the analytical chemistry testing labs and I think what ultimately really kind of nurtured my interest in food safety was not only working in the lab, but actually my role at QAI, the organic certification company. It just really pulled together my love of the outdoors, my appreciation for the environment, as well as food safety. And that initially kicked everything off for me,” said Bowen.

Since becoming the executive director of the Clean Label Project, Bowen has added on another title: mother.

“I take my role as both a public health advocate as well as a mom very seriously. I think before, it was a matter of talking about these things, but after becoming a parent, it's one where I'm actively involved in the business of growing a healthy body and a healthy brain for this munchkin. How do I want to go about doing that? What does my toolbox look like? It's taking a much more hands-on approach and literally looking at is not only am I talking about this, here's what I'm doing in my home differently in light of what I know,” said Bowen. “I’m fierce about it.”
