Specnova is tapping pharmaceutical technology to improve bioavailability, taste and has a shelf life.

The natural ingredients biotechnology company offers LipoVantage, a liposomal delivery system. The technology protects the active ingredient inside the liposome, changing how products are formulated.

LipoVantage can be applied to nutraceuticals, foods, and beverages. It is available as a powder for use in gummies, chews, functional foods, capsules, tablets, powders, RTD formulas, and more. It has been designed to improve bioavailability and taste and has a shelf life of two to three years.

Sebastian Balcombe started Specnova in 2017. As a medicinal chemist, Balcombe said he does everything from a research lens and is laser focused on performance.

“I'm driven by anything that can perform–that's what really excites me. Be it a finished product that can perform, making ingredients perform better, it's just really exciting when the customer is taking something and they know it works,” Balmcombe said.

“Be it delivery systems, better extraction processes, [there are] many, many different tactics that I have to make things perform better. So really performance is my biggest focus and passion…and R&D has been at my core DNA from the very beginning.”

The founder and CEO said Specnova is constantly conducting tests on different models to measure bioavailability on various ingredients and formulations.

“It's just constant testing and seeing what works, how we can make things perform much better, taking a lot of great ingredients in our industry and really optimizing them. And even taking ingredients that didn't perform too well and making them into superstars through our different delivery system technology.”
