NutraWomen Wednesday: Ellen Schutt, Managing Director, GOED

“Omega-3s–I’m biased–but they’re a real special part of the industry.”

Ellen Schutt is the managing director of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s.

Schutt has over 20 years in the natural products industry, with 12 of those years at GOED. Her first role in the dietary supplements space was founding editor of Nutraceuticals World in 1998.

“Let's just say the industry has become more professional since then. And I think that this is a good thing. I think that we have really gained a lot more consumer trust and credibility for the whole dietary supplement or nutraceuticals industry in the last 20 years,” Schutt observed.

Looking back, Schutt said there are two career highlights that stand out to her.

“I guess maybe it's bookending my career–although I'm not done yet–but I'm at the beginning of the career launching Nutraceuticals World really was a crowning moment and it was just being in an industry that we loved. The first issue was published in the fall of 1998 and then in 1999, we went to Expo West and so many people knew about the magazine. And so many people said it was good. And that was just like, ‘all right, we did it. We did it.’ So that was great.

And now I feel like at this point in my career running GOED is also something that I'm really proud of. And I think that the organization, what we do for the omega-3 industry is valuable, but our members are amazing. And the support we get from our 180 member companies and the back and forth and just the information that they're willing to share with us to help grow the entire omega-3 industry makes this a really special place to be. And omega-3s–I’m biased–but they’re a real special part of the industry.”
