Called Nutrameltz, the delivery technology is the brainchild of Suresh Kolla, founder and CEO of the firm of the same name. Kolla’s company is based in Mississauga, ON, Canada.
Kolla implies that the company’s melts, which he says completely dissolve in teh mouth, could provide some superior bioavailability.
“And the distinction of the melt over a chewable such as a gummy is that it delivers the actives into the mouth (buccal absorption) and is an experience to savor the moment with no calories,” Kolla said.
Long list of bioactives already tested
The delivery technology is said to have been under development for six years, and the firm’s product portfolio features a wide array of bioactives that have already been tested. These include a full suite of vitamins and minerals as well as branded ingredients such as Sabinsa’s Lactospore probiotic, Natreon’s Sensoril ashwagandha root and leaf extract, Astareal’s astaxanthin ingredient, and others.
Kolla said a big advantage of his technology, which uses only natural ingredients and is sweetened with non nutritive sweeteners, is that it can delivery meaningful doses of many different nutrients and botanical extracts.
“We can effectively incorporate up to 250 mg of actives in one melt, which is more than can be delivered via a typical gummy,” Kolla said.
The products are delivered in blister packs, which the company said improves shelf life.
Kolla is also listed as the owner of Canadian contract manufacturer Pharmaline, Inc., of which Nutrameltz is an apparent offshoot. Pharmaline, which also does white label manufacturing, has a product list that extends to more than 100 pages.
