Arjuna highlights botanical blend for quick pain relief at SupplySide West
Musculoskeletal injuries impact athletes in every sport–from football, to soccer and even esports. But it also affects those who engage in an active lifestyle.
Benny Antony, PhD, Joint Managing Director for Arjuna, said musculoskeletal pain ranks high among concerns for active populations.
“Active people involved in exercise and other hectic routines often encounter pain or musculoskeletal pain in some form or the other due to stresses and rigors of exercise. This has an adverse impact on quality of life and wellbeing and in cases even mobility and livelihood.”
Addressing pain quickly
Coming up at SupplySide West, Arjuna will showcase Rhuleave-K, the company’s latest innovation for addressing pain. Rhuleave-K is formulated with a blend of frankincense (Boswellia serrata) and turmeric (Curcuma longa).
According to Antony, the natural alternative provides pain relief in a short time and effectively targets most types of musculoskeletal pain that affects head, neck, muscle, joints and general body. The active components are individually known and widely used for pain and inflammation support, but the innovation that Rhuleave-K is highlighting comes down to a synergistic botanical formulation powered by SPEEDTECH technology that helps the ingredients act within hours.
Antony said Rhuleave-K is the result of a distinct gap in the herbal space for fast relief of acute pain. “Rhuleave-K is composed of all-natural botanicals, well-known in traditional Indian medicine and has seen growing support from the scientific community for their strong anti-inflammatory capacity. But more than anti-inflammatory, it’s the analgesic action which makes Rhuleave-K stand out. And being able to halve the dose makes it extremely affordable, opening up more options for creating new formulations using Rhuleave-K.”
The science
Already recognized in previous studies as providing relief of acute musculoskeletal pain following exercise at 1,000mg, researchers wanted to see what happened when they cut the Rhuleave-K dose in half.
The recent study, published in the Journal of Dental and Medical Sciences, was a prospective randomized double-blind study with 40 subjects who were given either a single dose of 500 mg of Rhuleave-K standardized curcuminoids and acetyl keto boswellic acid (AKBA), or a placebo. The primary outcome was the sum of pain intensity difference at 6 hours, as evaluated by the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and total pain relief (TOTPAR6) evaluated by categorical pain relief scale (PRS) every 30 minutes over 6 hours.
The researchers, Jerrin Kizhakkekara, MD, and Saif Mohammad, MD, noted that the results showed a 62% decrease in pain intensity with Rhuleave-K, with total pain relief 84% better than with the placebo. There was a 43% improvement in the quality of pain relief compared to placebo, as assessed by the McGill short-form questionnaire. Kizhakkekara and Mohammad concluded that Rhuleave-K at the 500mg dose had significant and cumulative pain-relief properties.
Coming up at SupplySide West
“We are excited to be part of SupplySide West, which certainly is an event that showcases science and strategy from ingredients to finished products driving the global nutraceutical industry,” Antony said. “Our star product for the show remains to be Rhuleave-K which has gained excessive interest among consumers and formulators for being the natural fast pain reliever. Yet again, our highly bioavailable Curcumin BCM-95 still reigns as the favorite that is available in different grades and multiple formats for all round wellness and more. Popular Ashwagandha has huge growth across the world and Arjuna’s high potency Ashwagandha, shown to clinically help ease depression, stress and sleep disturbances, improving immunomodulation and supporting production of testosterone in men, is still reigning high.”
