Natural Remedies Receives HealthCanada NPN for Andrographis extract
NPN license #80117041 allows for brands to claim that 200 mg of AP-Bio/KalmCold, “Helps to reduce symptoms of common cold and upper respiratory tract infections, (such as sore throat, cough, runny nose, fatigue, plugged nose and fever). Helps to reduce/relieve the severity of symptoms associated with upper respiratory tract infections (eg., common cold and flu).”
AP-Bio provides 35% andrographolide from the leaf of Andrographis paniculata. “AP-Bio is standardized to seven phytoconstituents including andrographolide (35%),” explained Deepak Mundkinajeddu, PhD, Natural Remedies’ Head of R&D. “This full profile of actives makes AP-Bio a potent Andrographis for a variety of immune-support formulas.”
The ingredient is supported by three human clinical studies for managing symptoms related to upper respiratory challenges and for positively modulating immunity, including a randomized double blind placebo controlled trial published in 2010 in Phytomedicine and an open-label study published in 2021 in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine.
Natural Remedies also recently completed a 90-day toxicity study on AP-Bio, said Abey Thomas, head of marketing for Natural Remedies, and the company is in the process of initiating its publication.
AP-Bio has a sustainable supply chain, is non-GMO Project Verified, USP-compliant and is certified Kosher and Halal, noted Thomas. “Canadian consumers can feel good not only about the science behind AP-Bio’s immune support properties but that it is ethically and sustainably cultivated, harvested and processed,” he added.
