Lief Labs supports ALS group with cash, products
Lief Labs, based in Valencia, CA, announced it has donated about $8,000 in addition to nutrition supplements to support the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) community. This has been done through a partnership of Life Cares, the company’s donation arm, and Axe ALS.
ALS is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system in which nerve function is interrupted where the nerves exit the spinal cord. The disease has no known cause nor is there a cure. At the moment the prognosis for ALS sufferers is grim, calling for eventual paralysis and death, as the nerves controlling breathing are finally disrupted. The alternative is a sedentary life on a ventilator with all of the comorbidities that arise for that situation.
The late English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking was perhaps the best known recent ALS sufferer. Decades ago it was baseball Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig, which is why the disease was once known in this country as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Former college football player stricken
Axe ALS was founded by former college football player and Los Angeles fireman Eric Stephens and his wife Amanda. Eric Stephens was diagnosed with ALS one month after their marriage several years ago.
“We are extremely proud to support Axe ALS and the important efforts of Eric and Amanda Stevens for the ALS community through our 2021 focus initiative for Lief Cares,” said Nate Cox, partner and chief business officer of Lief Labs. “We understand that the unique needs of people challenged with ALS often require them to use supplementation to help support their nutritional needs. Lief Cares was happy to specially formulate and manufacture a nutrient support supplement to donate to the ALS community, as well as help raise money and awareness for this very worthy cause.”
