The range offers three main products: Celltrient Cellular Protect, Celltrient Cellular Energy, and Celltrient Cellular Strength.
“Celltrient is an important advancement in our goal to bring new benefits to consumers and patients. Research has shown that cellular nutrients can be a game changer in the way people manage how they age,” said Greg Behar, CEO of Nestlé Health Science.
“At Nestlé Health Science, we're thrilled to be at the forefront of the revolution in cellular nutrition. As people age, we know that there is a gap between how they want to feel and how they are actually feeling. With Celltrient, we can help people transform the way their cells perform with age, ultimately helping them improve the health of their cells with nutrition.”
Products
Celltrient Cellular Protect provides a patented blend of amino acids – glycine and NAC (GlyNAC) – formulated to help replenish amino acids important for making Glutathione.
Celltrient Cellular Energy features TruNiagen Nicotinamide riboside (NR), which boosts NAD+ and supports cells' natural ability to produce daily energy.
Celltrient Cellular Strength features the cellular nutrient Mitopure Urolithin A (UA), reported to help activate the renewal of mitochondria in muscles through a natural process called mitophagy.
The Celltrient product range features cellular nutrients studied in more than 20 clinical trials in humans, said Nestlé in a release.
Partners
The launch marks the realization of partnerships between Nestlé Health Science and ChromaDex for TruNiagen and Amazentis for Mitopure Urolithin A.
The ChromaDex partnership was announced at the end of 2018, and expanded in early 2020 when ChromaDex announced the launch of a Tru Niagen supplement through the Persona personalized nutrition platform (Nestlé acquired Persona in August 2019).
NR is a potent precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD is an important cellular co-factor for improvement of mitochondrial performance and energy metabolism.
As organisms age, NAD levels drop, which leads to a decrease in mitochondrial health; this in turn leads to age-related health issues. By boosting NAD, NR may increase mitochondrial health and induce the creation of new mitochondria.
Commenting on the launch of Celltrient, Rob Fried, ChromaDex CEO, said: “We are pleased to see the Nestlé Health Science launch of Celltrient Cellular Energy. Tru Niagen, the only proprietary form of NR, provides healthy aging and energy support at the cellular level by safely and effectively increasing NAD+ levels.”
The partnership with Switzerland-based Amazentis for Mitopure Urolithin A was announced in April 2019.
Urolithin A has been reported to improve mitochondrial function by stimulating mitophagy, a process by which damaged mitochondria are recycled to permit a renewal with healthy mitochondria.
Two double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2 trials were recently completed that examined if Urolithin A could improve muscle health and function as well as other parameters.
Cellular Aging
Recent advances in scientific discovery have uncovered the important role cellular health plays in why and how we age. Deterioration in cell function begins in the 40s and accelerates in the 60s; however, research has identified specific cellular nutrients that can help address AACD.
AACD can lead to reductions in daily energy, muscle function, immune support, and overall health, said Nestlé in a release.
