The family-run business from Grayslake, Illinois, is taking their collagen from the Midwest to Expo West.

Great Lakes Gelatin will be at Natural Products Expo West to debut four new flavors of its collagen powder.

“I can’t think of a better venue than Expo West to introduce our new flavorful line of Collagen Hydrolysate,” said Jim Burkett, marketing director, strategy and innovation for Great Lakes Gelatin Company.

While Great Lakes Gelatin Company has been creating collagen and gelatin products since 1922, this is the company’s first line of collagen that is flavored.

Sweet flavor profiles

The family-run business from Illinois now offers four new flavors of its Collagen Hydrolysate, including Apple + Cucumber, Lemon + Lime, Mixed Berry and Vanilla.

Burkett told NutraIngredients-USA that the company used a data-driven decision process when developing their flavor selection set and held many tasting sessions it took to get the flavor-sweetness balance just right.”

“We also enlisted the assistance of a flavor house to refine and tweak flavor choices. Ultimately, we aligned the selected flavors with the preferences of our core and growth customer segments.”

Each new flavor of the grass-fed and pasture-raised collagen contains botanically-sourced ingredients that easily dissolve in hot or cool liquids, providing beverages with 19 different amino acids.

Why hydrolyzed collagen?

“We decided to go with hydrolyzed collagen because it is the best form for consumer use and assimilation by the human body.  From a consumer use perspective, hydrolyzed collagen provides versatility and convenience on a big scale, as it can be easily added to cool or hot liquids and semi-solid foods.  It’s the perfect collagen supplement add to coffee, smoothies, soups and breakfast foods...at home or on-the-go,” Burkett explained.

“For the body, hydrolyzed collagen is preferred due to the characteristically low molecular weight of the peptide group, and that low molecular weight allows the body to easily digest the collagen into the beneficial individual amino acids.”

Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate comes in 10 oz. cans, or 10 lb. cases of 12 and is available to ship.

Great expo-tations

“Expo West attendees are on the hunt for new and interesting products that promote a healthy lifestyle and support overall well-being, so to give potential customers the opportunity to try our product and provide feedback is invaluable.”

Burkett told us that attendees can expect to learn more about collagen and have the opportunity to sample their new collagen flavors adding, “The entire Great Lakes team welcomes everyone to booth 3547!”
