With barely two weeks left before the industry makes it annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas for SupplySide West, we look ahead to the events educational workshop program.

We’re not going to review every single workshop being hosted during SSW, because there are plenty to choose from, depending on your areas of interest. Here’s a pick of what’s on our radar:

The two big summits

A day before the expo opens, Informa is hosting two significant summits: One on CBD/ Hemp and one on Sports Nutrition.

CBD From Seed to Shelf: The Supply Side Story, chaired by Josh Long, features experts from CV Sciences, GenCanna, Neptune Wellness Solutions, Alkemist Labs, Eurofins, AHPA, Nutrasource, Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, Amin Talati Wasserman LLP, Rivkin Radler LLP, Jessica Wasserman, Greenspoon Marder LLP, and more.

The summit will address many aspects ranging from the state of the market to the fragmented supply chain, and from seed genetics to testing and how pharma and food will influence the category.

Finding New Pathways in Sports Nutrition, chaired by Steve Myers, features experts from Nutrasource, ProSupps USA, Ghost, J. Schall Consulting, the Center for Applied Health Sciences, Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, Dymatize, and more.

The summit will address protein innovation, CBD, ingredient trends, transparency, market opportunities, and the female sports nutrition consumer.

Also on Wednesday will be a workshop on diversity and inclusion, and why this is good business for all, chaired by Heather Granato.

Thursday, October 17

Thursday kicks off with a blockbuster panel discussion about DSHEA at 25: Legal Reform and the Future of the Law. The session features all the heads of the main trade associations, plus top executives from NOW, Herbalife, Twinlab, NAI, and Herbalist & Alchemist.

Other sessions to note on Thursday include Unraveling the Biotech Conundrum, and Trust in Testing: Contract Labs for Safe, Compliant Supplements.

Friday, October 18

Friday morning starts bright and early with a session on Accelerating Growth in the Organic Market, featuring experts from Clif Bar, OTA, General Mills, and more.

Other sessions to note on Friday include Prebiotics Market Development, and Mind Games: Cognitive Performance.

Saturday, October 19

Saturday will feature extended workshops about Probiotics (Extending Your Reach in the Probiotics Space), Contract Manufacturing (Contract Manufacturing Roundtable: How to Foster a Successful Partnership), sweeteners (The Shift from Sugar to Natural Sweeteners), and CBD (Business of CBD in Food & Beverages).

The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) will also run its full day Botanical Congress, which will cover a diverse range of topics, including:

Traditional medicines and contemporary herbal traditions, IP, Sustainability, hemp and CBD, the U.S.-China trade dispute, and more.
