WATCH: Why omega-3 policy needs to keep pace with research around pregnancy benefits

Industry has a crucial role to play in educating policymakers about the maternal and prenatal benefits of omega-3 supplementation, on the back of new and "compelling evidence".

That's the view expressed in this exclusive video interview with DSM's Dr Femke Hannes, who was a keynote speaker at the recent NutraIngredients Omega-3 Summit in Singapore.

In the video, she recaps some of the key takeaways from her talk, which referenced a recent Cochrane Review on the benefits of maternal omega-3 supplements in relation to reducing pre-term births.

Dr Hannes outlines the “staggering” extent of the problem, and underlines the importance of encouraging policymakers to create new guidelines and recommendations on the back of the research.

She also discusses the positive role that can be played by omega-3 index testing, where DSM has recently collaborated with OmegaQuant to create a product tailor-made for pregnant women.
