Speaking with NutraIngredients-USA at the recent GOED Exchange in Seattle, Canada’s Algarithm Ingredients’ Ben Kelly explained how the company collaborated with California-based Virun NutraBIOsciences on a range of omega-3 emulsions that should be hitting retail shelves soon.
“We had the opportunity to team up with Philip Bromley at Virun and what he really loved about our ingredient was the sensory aspect,” said Kelly. “We teamed up Virun’s technologies on emulsification and creating a finished product. Philip had this great combination of coconut MCTs and algal DHA, and talks about providing the consumer with an experience.”
The O3 Smoothies, which were launched late in 2017, deliver 400mg DHA from algae, protein, and 3000 mg MCT in each 15ml serving. The bottles contain 30 servings and have 18-month shelf-life at room temperature, and comes in Root Beer Float, Smores, Breakfast and PB&J.
“The product is on RangeMe, so it’s been pre-screened for retailers to review, and it’s on Amazon.com. In Canada, we expect you’ll see it on retail shelves as early as March or April, particularly in Western Canada where Algarithm is based.”
SXSW
Virun Algarithim will tell their story at the 2018 South by Southwest Conference (SXSW), in Austin, Texas March 9-18 during the panel “Algae, Not Animals: The Plant-Based Revolution”.
