Work on soil improvement leads to mineral ingredient for supplements
The company, which is a subsidiary of Global Organics, was highlighting the new formulation at the recent Healthy & Natural trade show on Chicago’s Navy Pier. The show was put on by William Reed, and brought together a select group of dietary supplement, natural food and personal care companies in the important Chicago-area market. Luke Blotsky, CEO of Goodyear, AZ-based Mineral Biosciences, spoke with NutraIngredients-USA at the show.
“Back in the 70s, when we were working around organic agriculture, we noticed that these minerals that we are launching with Mineral Biosciences are the same minerals that were depleted in the soil and that we were trying to get into the plants,” he said.
The company has identified a number of locations in North America where mineral-rich strata contained decomposed plants from the Jurassic period can be found. Using a proprietary extraction process, the company has put together a formula that supplies up to 65 of these minerals. The company claims that the resulting product, dubbed GlyDe-D, which contains its proprietary Totala Ionic Mineral Complex, can ameliorate the harmful effects of glycation, a reaction in the body that results from overly high blood sugar levels. The extraction process yields a mineral complex in ionic form, which Blotsky said is a key to its effectiveness.
“We are taking minerals in the form that Mother Nature gave them to us. Our process gives a very small, nano-sized particle as opposed to most minerals which are in colloidal form which has a harder uptake, which means it doesn’t translocate when you take it up into your blood,” he said.
