Supply eye: What gender-based nutrition means to the worlds’ biggest herbal player
How important are gender-based solutions?
“Genderfication is a very strong trend nowadays in the supplements industry. It all started with the gender-specific multivitamins that were directed to target specific male of female health issues,” said Elizabeth Bui, director of the Nutrition & Health Business Unit.
“But this trend is constantly growing, and is linked to the larger customisation trend that affects all industrializsd countries.
“The world is moving towards personalised nutrition programs that will target every man or woman’s individual needs and lifestyle and we see this as a game-changing market opportunity.”
How is Naturex present in these markets?
“Naturex has developed Flowens, a full spectrum cranberry powder purposely built and optimised for men’s health.
“Flowens was used in a randomised double blind placebo controlled study in otherwise healthy men with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) associated with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) which leads to deteriorating urinary conditions. Over 50 % of men in their 50s and 80% of men in their seventies suffer from BPH.
“Naturex has also developed Pacran, a full spectrum cranberry extract that specifically targets women and Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). Nearly half of all women will be affected by UTI at least once in their lifetime. The products holds 6 US and 3 international patents.”
“We also have Lifenol, a hop cone extract standardised in prenyflavonoids, including 8-prenylnaringenin, targeting hot flashes in post-menopausal women. It is associated with efficacy studies on menopausal disorders and, especially hot flashes.”
