Nutrition 21 launches new chromium/amylopectin complex for sports nutrition

A chromium/amylopectin complex may amplify the muscle building effects of whey protein, says a new study using Nutrition 21’s recently launched Velositol ingredient.

Data presented at The International Sport & Exercise Nutrition Conference, December 15-17, 2015, indicated that the Velositol amylopectin/chromium complex mixed with a dose of whey protein significantly increased muscle protein synthesis by 34%; calculated as the percent change verses whey protein alone.

The study was led by Tim Ziegenfuss, PhD, CEO of The Center for Applied Health Sciences and Arny Ferrando, PhD, of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Commenting on the presentation, James Komorowski, VP of scientific & regulatory affairs of Nutrition 21 said: “We are especially pleased with the presentation of the clinical study results, demonstrating an enhanced rate of muscle protein synthesis (MPS) with Velositol amylopectin/chromium complex when combined with whey protein.”

Bill Levi, VP of strategy & business development at Nutrition 21, said: “Nutrition 21 is excited to add our new innovative ingredient, Velositol amylopectin/chromium complex to our sports nutrition portfolio. Velositol has been shown to ‘amplify’ the effects of protein for enhanced muscle protein synthesis (MPS). Consumers can accelerate and increase MPS when they choose a workout product containing Velositol and they should look for the Velositol logo on workout products to get more out of their fitness training.”
