Are omega-3 fisheries really under threat? How many functional foods have cracked omega-3 blockbuster status? How is the sector recovering from the ‘Brasky effect’? How are developing markets developing? How is the latest research influencing regulation? Tune as experts debate these and other crucial issues framing the omega-3 sector.

Between plant, algae and marine sources the global omega-3 sector has shown strong growth over many years to be worth about €25bn today. The sector continues to grow globally but questioning science like the Brasky paper of 2014, along with easing economies, has provoked a growth cool down in some markets.

This NutraIngredients forum – broadcast live on April 8 at 14:00 Central European Time - brings together three experts with diverse views on a complex sector adapting to change on fronts from sustainability to regional demographic shifts to data gathering and dispersion and government policy.

Are omega-3 health benefits scientifically backed beyond cardiovascular and cognitive function? Are DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) the only forms that matter? How much support is there for GM's nutrition-boosting promise? What does the latest science say about the balance between omega-3 and omega-6 consumption? What formats are flourishing?

400 omega-3 stakeholders have registered already including representatives of GSK, Danone, Golden Omega, Nutricia, Perfetti van Melle, Bayer, Kerry, DSM, BASF, Singapore Polytechnic, the University of Texas, Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Amway, FutureLife, Bixio Consulting, Forté Pharma and a&r Consulting and the US Food and Drink Administration.

The omega-3 experts are:
