Kappa debuts double-coated vitamin K2

Kappa debuts double-coated vitamin K2
Norway’s Kappa Bioscience has introduced a vitamin K2 form that comes as the firm has inked a major deal on it with a global vitamin supplement player.

The ‘K2VITAL Delta’ version is double-coated and microencapsulated and follows developments with the also relatively newly launched MK-7.

Kappa says it offers improved stability in blends including calcium.

“Through testing and analysing of more than 700 data points from over 100 samples containing calcium and other minerals, and vitamin K2 MK-7, Kappa Bioscience found low recovery of MK-7 in finished products and decreased stability over time,” the company said in a statement.

“These results were irrespective of MK-7 origin or geographical location.”

The double-coating process protected the nutrients with tests showing recovery rates for MK-7 of 95% in the presence of minerals like calcium. Problems like alkalinity, high temperature and pressure were reduced, meaning lower quantities of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

“Our main objective is to make vitamin K2 available for all,” said Kappa CEO Egil Greve.

Greve said the company had chosen the name Delta - the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet - because 'delta' represented change.
