DSM expands Latin American presence with two premix facilities
Two premix facilities were opened in Tocancipá, Colombia, and Amaguaña, Ecuador to strengthen the “entire nutrition sector in Latin America”, said Rick Greubel, president of Human Nutrition & Health, DSM Nutritional Products.
“Our new premix plant in Tocancipá offers the highest levels of product quality, reliability and traceability, accompanied by state-of-the art safety and sustainability standards. Tocancipá will be a beacon of good manufacturing practice for the region,” he added.
Jaime Piza , senior director premix business of human nutrition and health, DSM, told NutraIngredients-USA that the Colombia premix plant will serve the complete Andean market, which included Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela countries for human nutrition and health and Columbia only for animal nutrition and health.
On the other hand, the Ecuador premix plant concerns only animal nutrition and health, he added.
"We are ready to supply any market or country from any of our eight human nutrition & health premix plants around the world, with the same quality, reliability, traceability and sustainability standards," said Piza.
Latin American market
Piza noted that the health through better nutrition market in Latina America has grown fast and DSM believes such growth will continue.
"Demand for nutrients in supplements and in food fortification may well be reaching over US$500 Million value by 2015."
"Mexico and Brazil, having the largest industry base, drive demand and value in the food and supplements industry," he noted. "We however cannot overlook fast growing countries like Colombia, Argentina and Peru."
