IBS probiotic supplement launched

Californian dietary supplements manufacturer Jarrow Formulas has debuted a probiotic supplement targeting irritable bowel syndrome.

Ideal Bowel Support employs Institut Rosell-Lallemand’s Lactobacillus plantarum 299v strain and contains 10bn colony forming units (CFU) per vegetarian capsule.

The companies are highlighting other benefits such as general discomfort, bloating, bouts of constipation and occasional diarrhea and supports the management of various bowel conditions.

“Increasingly, gastroenterologists endorse the use of well documented, quality probiotic strains such as Lp299v as a more holistic approach for IBS patients, as probiotic will not only reduce the symptoms, but will also tackle the cause, without the side effects associated to certain drugs,” said Bérengère Feuz, Institut Rosell-Lallemand Gastroenterology International Product Manager.

Institut Rosell-Lallemand has licensed Lactobacillus plantarum 299v from Sedish probiotics specialist Probi since 2003.
