Profile: Israeli functional ingredients pioneer Gary Brenner

Gary Brenner spent the best part of two decades in a marketing and business development role helping Solbar establish itself as a major player in the global supply of soy extracts.

In this ‘me-in-3’ three-minute profile, he tells Shane Starling about his time with the company that was once itself a kibbutz-based start-up – and why he knew he had to leave and start out on his own which he did this January to work with Israel’s nutritional biotech industry.

Brenner said his new venture is helping help Israeli companies move their products into the marketplace.

One project was bringing Arabs and Israelis together to work on plant extract research projects.

Reflecting on changes he has seen in the industry, Brenner said, “the science has become much more demanding.”

“[It is] much more rigorous in terms of what customers expect of people like ourselves, expect of the research part of the industry. Then there are the regulatory issues which all of us are trying to figure out as we go along.”
