IADSA to extend scientific programme

The group that represents global supplements manufacturers has committed to expanding its scientific programme to better cover substantiation of claims and botanical ingredients.

At its annual meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, the International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) said it would boost efforts toward multilateral regulatory harmony in Asia and Latin America.

It also committed to a global framework for good manufacturing practices (GMP) and closer of the European Union health claims situation.

“We have to move forward on engaging in more education and training for decision-makers, whether in government or science,” said Peter Zambetti, the newly elected chairman of IADSA.

“It is vital that whatever regulatory and policy solutions are arrived at across the world, the interests of the whole supplement sector are protected.”

The Belgian headquartered group is an accredited international non-governmental organization (INGO) and has provided influential input into international rule-making bodies such as the United Nations food regulations arm, the Codex Alimentarius.
