GMP Herbal Products recalls slimming pill

GMP Herbal Products is recalling a weight loss dietary supplement called Pai You Guo after the FDA found the product contained undeclared drug ingredients.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lab analysis of the supplements found undeclared sibutramine, an FDA-approved drug used as an appetite suppressant. Sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some people and may therefore pose a serious health risk to certain consumers, according to the FDA.

Tests also uncovered phenolphthalein, a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer-causing agent that is not approved for marketing in the US.

All lots of Pai You Guo, which was sold over the internet, are being recalled.
