Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lab analysis of the supplements found undeclared sibutramine, an FDA-approved drug used as an appetite suppressant. Sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some people and may therefore pose a serious health risk to certain consumers, according to the FDA.
Tests also uncovered phenolphthalein, a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer-causing agent that is not approved for marketing in the US.
All lots of Pai You Guo, which was sold over the internet, are being recalled.
