Earthrise obtains HACCP for spirulina

Earthrise Nutritionals has gained third party HACCP certificate of registration to underline the safety credentials of its spirulina.

HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) is mandatory only for meat, poultry, seafood, milk, and fresh cut vegetables, but Earthrise chose to follow its process to reassure customers of the safety of its products

The HACCP process itself involves a critical analysis of potential sources of food safety problems, the implementation of control limits, and the creation of procedures to ensure these limits are not exceeded.

Earthrise said it is the only US-based company producing spirulina to have such certification. Spirulina is a blue-green algae used in dietary supplements and functional foods for its antioxidant properties.
