Market expected to rebound from Hydroxycut blow

The recent recall of the top-selling weight loss supplement brand Hydroxycut will further erode consumer confidence in the category, but the market will ultimately rebound, says an ingredients player.

Last Friday, 14 different products in the Hydroxycut line were recalled by their manufacturer Iovate Health Sciences after a number of adverse event reports found that they could be linked to serious liver damage.

Mitch Skop, from ingredient group Pharmachem, which counts some weight loss ingredients in its portfolio, tells NutraIngredients-USA.com why the category is not doomed.

Hydroxycut is one of the most popular weight-loss supplement brands in the US. In 2008 alone, over nine million units of the product were sold.
