New GOED board includes Unilever executive

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED) has announced its new board for 2009, which includes executives from some of the biggest omega-3 ingredients suppliers, as well as the global food giant Unilever.

The new chair of the organization is Philip Fass, executive director of industry and commercial relations at DHA supplier Martek Biosciences. Fass is replacing Ocean Nutrition’s Robert Orr.

David Shannon (Croda) was elected as vice chairman, Jan Haakonsen (Denomega) as treasurer, and Baldur Hjaltason (EPAX) as secretary. Other board members include Olav Sandnes (Marine Nutriceuticals), Amanda Ruess (DSM), Harvey Kamil (NBTY), and Maha Misbah (Unilever).

“This will be a pivotal year for DHA and EPA worldwide; consumers and governments are recognizing the very strong science for the critical role these Omega 3’s play in supporting heart, cognitive, and visual health throughout people’s lifecycles,” said Fass.
