Enzymotec inks Nordic distribution deal
Danish raw materials and ingredients supplier, Alsiano Pharma, to
distribute its lipid-based ingredients throughout Scandinavia.
Michal Haim-Bravman, Enzymotec's Europe director of sales and marketing, said Alsiano's experience and wide-ranging distribution network made it the perfect partner to expand Enzymotec's Nordic presence.
"They have the networks and experience in place," she told NutraIngredients.com.
"The Scandinavians have always been very interested in food supplements and functional foods and that is why we want to expand our presence there."
"We expect that the collaboration with Alsiano will enable us to deepen our penetration into the Nordic market where the population is known to well accept innovative ingredients for self-treatment," she said.
The deal will see Enzymotec's proprietary phospholipids - Sharp, CardiaBeat and Krill Oil+ - employed in various supplement products.
Haim-Bravman did not rule out functional foods launches in the future in Scandinavia or in other markets as it seeks to expand its European operations.
Dairy was being looked at.
Enzymotec recently entered into another joint venture with the Scandinvian oil and fats company, AAK, called Advanced Lipids, for the development and marketing of InFat - an offering that "enables optimal Calcium absorption and reduced constipation for infants."
Haim-Bravman said the company expected CardioBeat to perform well given the high incidence of heart disease in Scandinavia. Enzymotec also recently entered into a partnership to launch a new supplement containing its CardiaBeat heart health ingredient on the UK market.
The firm has been busy in recent months extending the role of CardiaBeat and has started several collaborations with different companies in Europe, India, Australia, South Korea and the US.
Enzymotec recently boost its brain health nutrient phosphatidylserine (PS) by producing a 99 per cent pure form.
The high PS will be available globally and forms part of its Sharp PS line of products.
Enzymotec this summer announced it will build a new 200,000 sq foot research and development centre to meet " growing demand " for its products.
In August Enzymotec said this new R&D centre will be up and running by the end of the year.
Alsiano's range includes actives, binders, vitamins, minerals, plant extracts and amino acids - from single products to turn-key concepts.
It also works with the Nordic food industry.
