NutraGenesis rolls out mushroom powders
mushroom powders for use in dietary supplements and functional
foods called MycoFusions.
The MycoFusions line uses six different mushrooms thought to have energy and stamina functions, as well as to support heart health, anti-aging, and immunity.
NutraGenesis' branded antioxidant-rich powder is innovative because despite using mushrooms - a distinctly flavored vegetable that does not necessarily appeal to all taste buds - it can be applied to a variety of foods including granola bars.
MycoFusions are the result of a proprietary fermentation process that blends high fiber and high protein components of mushrooms that are grown on the anthocyanin-rich substrates of whole grain purple, black or blue corn.
The powders are high in both protein and dietary fiber, as well as high in ORAC (the Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity scale usually used to measure anti-oxidant potency) antioxidants.
The mushroom varieties used in MycoFusions include: Maitake, Cordyceps, Reishi, Oyster, Shiitake, and Coriolus. The powders are certified organic and Kosher.
The Vermont-based company will be displaying a granola bar prototype formulated with MycoFusions powders at Supply Side West.
