Marketing moves for nutra cos

Advitech, Cevena, Nutrition 21 and NOW Foods are amongst the companies renewing their marketing efforts with new appointments this month.

Advitech has recruited Pierre Mailloux to secure partnerships for its oral psoriasis product XP-828L.

Maillox has many years experience as a consultant for drug companies and will help the company identify potential marketing partners and negotiate distribution agreements for the product.

The company has also retained Navigant Consulting to develop and execute its marketing program.

Advitech president and CEO Renaud Beauchesne called Mailloux and Navigent's appointments "major steps toward our objective of bringing our psoriasis product to market."

With the results of a double blind, placebo controlled clinical study demonstrating the efficacy and safety of XP-828L released last week, marketing is now the main hurdle standing between XP-828L and the mild to moderate psoriasis treatment market, which has been estimated to be worth around US$1 billion.

As of this month, Cyanotech's investor relations and marketing communications are being handled by Russell Communications Group, focusing in particular on the business-to-business wholesale market for its ingredients.

Nutrition 21, meanwhile, is taking a rather different approach it raising awareness over its products, concentrating on informing the US government about the health benefits of chromium in diabetes and metabolic health.

It has appointed Debra Bass , former partner in health policy, regulatory affairs and government relations firm Martinez Bass and Associates, as its in-house government relations counsel.

Gail Montgomery, president and CEO of Nutrition 21, said Bass' strong relationships in the public health arena will be an asset to the company.

Natural products manufacturer and distributor NOW Foods is building its marketing team from the top down, tapping 15-year natural products industry veteran Jim Ritcheske to head up its marketing department.

Ritcheske, who has previously worked for Nature's Sunshine, Eden Foods and Amway Corporation, will play a "major role" in the development of new products.

Carol Dunning has been appointed as NOW's new human resources manager.

The newest member of Cevena Bioproducts' marketing team is Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research intern Kristina Williams, who said she wanted to work with the company behind Viscofiber because of its executives' "keen vision based on integrity and the desire to provide consumers with a reliable and effective means to achieve health and wellness."
