Supplements to Cuba

A dietary supplement company has gained a license to sell its products to Cuba, under the next round of exports exempted from the trade embargo.

The dietary supplement maker Transfer Point has obtained a commercial license from the US Treasury to sell its products to Cuba.

A recent law exempted food, agricultural products, and medicines from the US trade embargo on Cuba and since then the country has purchased over $500 million of goods from the US.

South Carolina-based Transfer Point, which sells beta 1,3-D glucan, glucosamine, astaxanthin and other dietary supplement ingredients, will join 70 companies and 15 state departments of agriculture and commerce, expected to sell up to$100 million of products in this round of negotiations.

A.J. Lanigan, the company's formulator and contract manufacturer, said: "The Cubans appreciate the importance of natural products like ours and the role they can play in their food supply and medical system. We look forward to beginning a productive business relationship with the Cuban people."
