Plant extract for stress-free supplements

Vermont-based NutraGenesis has introduced a patented bioactive
extract of the Indian herb Withania somnifera, which it claims acts
to reduce the body's response to stress.

The company claims that Sensoril will meet growing consumer demand for a safe, effective, natural product to combat the negative effects of stress.

The product's active compounds work as a 'stress response inhibitor' on the body's physiological and emotional responses to stressors, according to NutraGenesis.

Withania somnifera is an Indian medicinal plant used widely in the treatment of many conditions in India. Its anti-stressor properties have been investigated in animal studies although there appears to be little evidence of its efficacy in humans.

NutraGenesis claims that research on the product has been evaluated and it has approved structure/function health claims, substantiated by an FDA law firm. Supplement makers can claim that it 'helps increase resistance to fatigue, stress, tension and irritability' or 'helps cope with stress'.

The product, developed by Natreon, is available to dietary supplement marketers in North America for use in stand-alone products or in stress prevention formulations. The ingredient is suitable for encapsulation and tableting and is well-suited to a broad range of product applications, according to NutraGenesis.
