Belgian company Belovo is introducing eggs to the US market said to have more than 17 times the omega-3 fatty acid content of regular eggs.

Christopher Eggs come from hens fed a special, patented diet that allows them to produce eggs with more than 600mg omega-3 per egg.

Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to offer important benefits for heart health. It is also important for the developing foetus and newborns as it aids in brain development.

The eggs are said to taste the same as regular eggs and therefore offer an easy way of increasing omega-3 in the diet, without turning to supplements. The eggs, known as Columbus Eggs in Europe, will be available in more than 500 Wal-Mart Supercenters in the 13 South Central and Midwestern states.

Christopher Eggs are handled and produced for Belovo's US division by The Good Egg People, Rose Acre Farms in Seymour, Indiana.
