Raw materials supplier DNP International yesterday announced the introduction of three significant new raw materials to its range of offerings, part of a batch of 22 new additions overall. Idebenone, sodium hyaluronate and theobromine are now offered at DNP's three warehouse locations in Los Angeles, Chicago and New Jersey.
According to DNP, which supplies more than 2000 raw materials, each of these products, though very different from each other, is a cutting-edge ingredient that is starting to distinguish itself from the rest. Idebenone is used primarily for cognitive function, sodium hyaluronate for anti-aging and theobromine for energy and weight-loss.
Idebenone is a synthetic analog of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a powerful antioxidant, used mainly in the supplement industry. DNP claims studies have shown that idebenone performs better than CoQ10 under certain conditions, such as under low oxygen conditions. Thus in a heart attack or stroke Idebenone could prevent free radical damage and maintain relatively normal cell ATP levels.
In addition, while idebenone effectively performs the same positive and essential functions as CoQ10, DNP says it does not possess the negative effects present in CoQ10 under hypoxic (low oxygen) conditions. Potential benefits of the ingredient include anti-aging, increased energy, improved cognition, powerful antioxidant activity even under low O2 conditions, and protection against excitatory amino acid neurotoxicity.
The water-soluble powder sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid (HA). The medical uses of sodium hyaluronate include ophthalmology, osteoarthritis and dentistry. It is also widely used in cosmetics for its moisturizing properties and in dermatologicals/cosmeceuticals for its purported anti-aging effects.
Hyaluronic acid is a gel-like substance found in animal connective tissue, synovial fluid and the vitreous humor of eyes. It is a natural, long-chain polysaccharide composed of disaccharide units of glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine.
Theobromine belongs to a class of alkaloids called methylxanthines and attracts interest as a supplement for energy and for weight-loss. Methylxanthines are synthesized or extracted from as many as 60 different plant species and include caffeine (the primary methlyxanthine in coffee) and theophylline (in tea).
The primary methylxanthine found in products of the cocoa tree - Theobroma cacao, Theobromine is also present in small amounts in green coffee beans, tea and mate. According to DNP, the ingredient affects humans similarly to caffeine, but is somewhat milder. This means that it is mildly diuretic (increases urine production), is a mild stimulant and relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi in the lungs.
DNP said it had added these products to its portfolio in order to enhance its sourcing capabilities to the raw materials industry. The three products are also backed by a customer requested 'Quality Package', which includes proof of quality such as an Independent Lab Assay and Certificate of Analysis.
