The SupplySide West show begins today with a packed seminar schedule delivered by National Institutes of Health researchers, ahead of the main exhibition opening tomorrow.

Last year, the two-day exhibition attracted more than 4,700 executives from dietary supplement, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies. Attendance is expected to increase at this week's meeting, to feature more than 650 exhibitor booths.

Among them, Cargill will introduce a number of dietary supplement prototypes to support its joint health product OptaFlex chondroitin sulfate and the pure phytosterol tablets CoroWise. Its finished beverage prototypes, including the 'Bone Appetit' raspberry tea on display at IFT will also be at the Cargill booth.

Other firms will concentrate their communication in science seminars, with Technical Sourcing to deliver a seminar on the latest muscle glycogen resynthesis research carried out on its patent-pending Promilin on October 2, Room 801/802. HP Ingredients and SourceOne Global Partners are backing a presentation on the Southeast Asian root extract supplement LJ100 Tongkat Ali, claimed to boost energy and testosterone levels .

Today's seminar program, added to the usual two-day conference, and for the first time, will see scientists from each of the six NIH-funded Dietary Supplement Research Centers present findings on botanical ingredients including soy isoflavones, tea catechins, grape seed extract, ginger, turmeric, St John's wort, black cohosh and echinacea.

The event takes place at the Venetian & The Sands Expo center in Las Vegas, Nevada, with tomorrow morning's keynote address from basketball star Magic Johnson. The NutraIngredients-USA team will be keeping you up-to-date on new product launches and conference debates.
