Maker of the low-carb Keto brand foods Life Services Supplements has filed a string of suits against industry competitors using trademarks similar to its key brand.

In a suit against New York-based natural foods firm Natural Organics, (also known as Nature's Plus) it has alleged unfair competition, false designation of origin and false description ofthe Ketolism trademark. Life Services claims that Ketoslim is confusingly similar to its Keto trademark.

The firm has also filed suit against Ketogenics, a nutritional supplement company based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and is currently petitioning the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board to cancel the trademark Ketopro, registered by Switzerland's Numico Financial Services.

Numico's use of the trademark will result in 'confusion, mistake or deception in the marketplace for nutritional foods', according to Life Services.

The company said it is aiming to send out a clear message to the marketplace to avoid Keto or anything similar when choosing a mark. The lawsuits reflect the growing competition in the popular low-carb market.

The Keto range includes 120 low-carb branded foods and snacks sold through a fast-growing base of more than 7,000 health food stores and supermarkets.
