German functional food and supplement maker WellPlus Trade is developing a bar prototype to contain Israeli firm Enzymotec's heart-healthy MultOil.

The capuccino-flavoured prototype is aimed at adults wishing to reduce the risk of heart disease. It contains 1.5g of MultOil, a phytosterol ester and DAG formula launched by Enzymotec earlier this year. This quantity of oil offers a third of the daily phytosterol-esters needed to reduce cholesterol, suggests the firm.

"This new bar comes with delicious cappuccino taste and is also high in protein," said Karsten Pistor, CEO of WellPlus Trade. "It allows adults to enjoy snacks between mealtimes while maintaining a healthy lifestyle."

She added that the prototype is the first functional bar in a line of advanced nutrition bars to be developed by WellTrade Plus for different age groups.

MultOil is made up of 25 per cent phytosterol-esters and 15 per cent DAG. It has no trans-fats, and its non-hydrogenated form also offers good emulsifying properties, controlled viscosity and melting point.

Enzymotec also makes InFat, a new fat ingredient designed for infant formulas.
