Derma Beauty contains two parts - a dietary supplement and topical serum - which both contain hyaluronic acid and collagen as well as antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and herbs.

Collagen is said to reinforce the skin's structure while hyaluronic acid retains the skin's moisture and suppleness, according to Health Logics. Hyaluronic acid, an acid that occurs naturally in the skin, holds and binds moisture in the skin layers. It has been used in eye surgery as a shock absorber to protect the retina, and has also been found to lubricate arthritic joints.

Supplements designed to boost skin health, sometimes called cosmeceuticals, are seeing increasing demand as a new sector emerges in the natural health industry. Sales of cosmeceutical products in the US are expected to increase 8.5 per cent per year to $5.1 billion in 2007, suggests recent market research.

The patented Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen combination will be launched first in 1500 of GNC's 5300 stores.

Parent company of Pittsburgh-based GNC Royal Numico announced last week it had completed the sale of its vitamin maker Rexall Sundown to rival NBTY.
