ADM closes further soybean crushing plant

Agribusiness ADM is to close another soybean crushing facility, as poor margins fail to improve.

The North Kansas City, Missouri operations will close indefinitely next week, said the company, which also recently closed another plant in Little Rock, Arkansas.

It is not clear how many jobs will be affected by the Illinois-based firm's decision. It currently has over 24,000 employees, and made sales of $22.6 billion in fiscal 2002.

ADM is increasingly looking to value-added products, including specialty food ingredients and nutraceuticals, such as Vitamin E and sterols, as weak soybean processing operations continue to take their toll.
