Carbolite Foods has introduced sugar-free, low-carbohydrate cereal bars, said to be lighter and tastier than the first generation nutrition bars.
The company is positioning the product as a healthier option to the traditional cereal bars, recently under criticism for high sugar and carbohydrate content.
"The trend in the nutrition bar market has been away from the old thick and heavy protein bars of the 1990s," said Roeland Polet, vp of sales and marketing of Carbolite. "We see the market moving towards rice or soy crisps to make up the bulk of newer bars. The formulation results in a much better mouth feel as compared to the old extruded bars."
CarboRite Crispy Nutrition Bars contain 23 vitamins and minerals and 7g of soy protein, adding the heart-health claim to the product.
CarboRite Crispy Nutrition Bars come in four flavors - Chocolate Peanut Butter and S'Mores first, to be followed by Lemon and Vanilla Crème - and are being shipped to stores throughout the US.
Evansville-based Carbolite Foods also makes low-carbohydrate candies, snacks and supplements. It claims to have the leading three products in the overall diet foods market.
